1. Observe and protect
Write down the symptoms, limit further damage where it’s safe, and gather whatever history is available.
2. Evaluate the house and site
A solid diagnosis walks through fixture behavior, what the pipe is made of, current pressure and drainage, venting, shutoff locations, access, and any repairs already on record.
3. Define a written scope
Nail down preparation, protection, materials, access, permits, testing, cleanup, restoration, exclusions, and change-order terms.
4. Compare providers
Verify credentials, then weigh the reasoning and boundaries behind each proposal, not just the total at the bottom.
5. Inspect closeout
Confirm the work tested out, the site is clean, paperwork was provided, and warranty and maintenance duties are spelled out.
